Molluscum Contagiosum is a common viral skin infection caused by the molluscum contagiosum virus (MCV). It appears as small, smooth, flesh-colored bumps on the skin. Although harmless, the infection is highly contagious and can spread through direct contact or contaminated objects. It commonly affects children but can also occur in adults.
Symptoms
* Small, round, raised bumps
* Smooth, shiny, or flesh-colored appearance
* A tiny dimple or pit in the center
* Usually painless, but may itch
* Can appear anywhere—face, neck, arms, torso, legs, or genital area
Diagnosis
Molluscum is usually diagnosed by:
* Physical examination
* Dermatoscope evaluation
* Skin scraping (rarely needed)
